The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
