Tropical Storm the storm is forecast to escalate to a uncommon Category 5 hurricane as it veers towards the Caribbean island, causing dangerous sudden floods and landslides.

The cyclone, which had wind speeds of up to 120 miles per hour as of 06:00 GMT, is currently turning toward the northwest in the Caribbean and is anticipated to hit the coast by early next week, based on data from hurricane specialists.

Alerts of electricity outages and disruption to utilities have been issued as this storm produces up to 30 inches of precipitation and coastal flooding as high as 13ft above typical tides. "Find safe refuge immediately," locals have been urged.

The cyclone is the 13th storm in the current Atlantic hurricane season, which usually concludes in the eleventh month.

Category Five Cyclone Risk

A category five storm is the strongest type, with wind speeds of at least 252 km/h.

Even though this storm is expected to weaken to a Category 4 hurricane before reaching Jamaica, authorities said there was "very little practical difference in the general consequences" upon making contact with land, and that the cyclone will be "at least that intensity" when it impacts the nation.

Alerts are also in effect for areas in Haiti including the main city, Port au Prince, the neighboring country and eastern Cuba, where this storm is expected to bring analogous consequences by the middle portion of the coming week.

Landslides already being caused by the hurricane have already killed two in the country, according to local authorities.

This weather system is projected to move across Cuba by Wednesday before passing across the Caribbean archipelago and emerging into the open ocean.
